Both male and female cockatiels make wonderful pets - the males will learn more complex songs and might attempt to talk but they can be noisy ( please be aware of this if you live in an apartment or are noise sensitive) - the hens will whistle but are generally more quiet. Hens are just as sweet and tame as the males and are a good option if you are looking for quieter pet. Cockatiels are happiest when kept with other cockatiels. They are often less noisy and will be less prone to unwanted behavior like screaming, biting and plucking when kept in pairs or groups. Two cockatiels can be just as tame as a single one as long as you spend time with them ( I give a discount if you purchase two cockatiels instead of just one- which is subject to availability of course!).
to have a friend around that they can talk to and turn to when their human is away from home or busy doing other things. My babies are kept in groups since hatch and are still very tame and trusting- they do not get wild or un-social because they have a bird friend - they all love people. Adopting a single bird means that you accept the responsibility to be this birds "mate" for the rest of it's life- cockatiels can live well into their 20s or 30s - birds eat, sleep and play together. Birds feeding their toys (or humans), mating with hands, toys or bells or defending their human against others, screeching, plucking, cage aggression, destructive behavior and depression can all be the result of keeping a single bird.
I do not adopt out birds into homes with small cages or single birds into homes where they would be alone for most of the day-
I do not sell un-weaned babies - no exceptions!
